CO2 from beer brewing processes is purified and used for soft drink production, as well as in the storage and bottling of beer itself. The purification can take place at the brewery (CO2 recovery) and/or at a carbonated soft drinks plant (CO2 polishing).

The purification goal is the removal of taste and odor compounds, such as H2S, DMS, mercaptans and other organics. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is often the most critical impurity that is to be removed.

For CO2 purification at the brewery, ADVANZ® RB extruded activated carbons are highly suitable:

. Optimal adsorption characteristics for the targeted impurities, also at very low concentrations
. Good regenerability (regeneration with hot CO2 or steam) resulting in a high effective working capacity
. High strength and hardness, to withstand the mechanical stress of loading and regeneration cycles.

For CO2 polishing (without regeneration), ADVANZ RB grades are likewise most suitable thanks to their favorable adsorption characteristics for the listed impurities.

For exceptionally high levels of H2S or other sulfur compounds, ADVANZ can supply special impregnated carbons.

Renewable raw materials are used for our ADVANZ RB grades. They are produced in an HACCP certified process.
